Barcelona Airport to the City: Train, Aerobús, Metro or Taxi

Take Aerobús for Plaça Catalunya and central Eixample, the R2 Nord train from Terminal 2 for Passeig de Gràcia, the L9 Sud metro for Fira or a useful connection, and a taxi for door-to-door travel with luggage. The best route depends on your terminal and hotel, not a universal fastest option.

Before landing, save the hotel address and identify the closest useful stop. Barcelona El Prat has two terminals, and the rail station is at Terminal 2.

Aerobús runs airport services toward Plaça Catalunya with central stops. It is the simplest public option for many Eixample and Gothic Quarter hotels because luggage stays with you and the final taxi or walk is short.

Check whether your hotel is closer to Plaça Espanya, Gran Via or Plaça Catalunya. Do not remain on the bus to the end automatically if an earlier stop is better.

The airport rail station serves Terminal 2. The R2 Nord is useful for Barcelona Sants and Passeig de Gràcia, especially when the hotel is near either station. From Terminal 1, use the airport shuttle to reach Terminal 2 before the train.

This is often the cleanest choice for Eixample hotels near Passeig de Gràcia. It is less appealing if the shuttle and final transfer turn one train into three separate moves.

L9 Sud serves both terminals and connects with other metro lines, but it does not run directly to the old center. TMB estimates about 32 minutes to the city network and lists transfer stations including Torrassa, Collblanc and Zona Universitària.

The common T-casual is not valid at Aeroport T1 or T2. Use a valid airport product. The metro is strongest for Fira, western Barcelona or hotels aligned with its transfers.

A licensed taxi is often worth it for two or more people with bags, a late arrival or a hotel inside narrow old-city streets. Follow official taxi signs at the terminal. Show the written hotel address and keep the receipt.

A taxi can drop near, but not always at, a pedestrian hotel entrance in the Gothic Quarter or El Born. Ask the hotel where cars stop before the trip.

Check live service on the day. Then start with the first neighborhood rather than another transfer: the three-day itinerary places each major sight on the side of town where it belongs.
