Should you stay in Jordaan or De Pijp?
Choose Jordaan for canals, historic atmosphere and a first visit centered on walking. Choose De Pijp for restaurants, brunch, Albert Cuypmarkt and a livelier residential neighborhood. Jordaan feels more classically Amsterdam. De Pijp gives you more everyday food choice and easier access to Museumplein.
Choose Jordaan for canals and atmosphere
Jordaan puts quiet lanes, brown cafés, galleries and Noordermarkt beside the western canal belt. The Anne Frank House is nearby, though the busiest streets around it do not represent the whole neighborhood.
I amsterdam’s Jordaan guide highlights its café terraces, markets, museums and community feel.
Choose De Pijp for food and energy
De Pijp revolves around Albert Cuypmarkt, restaurants, bars, bakeries and Sarphatipark. It is close to Museumplein without feeling like a museum district. Metro and tram connections make the center easy.
The official De Pijp guide is especially strong on brunch, market food, shops and Amsterdam School architecture.
The hotel tradeoff
Jordaan’s small historic buildings can mean steep stairs, compact rooms and difficult taxi access. De Pijp usually offers a more regular street grid and faster transport, but nightlife noise varies block by block.
Ask for the lift, stair and room details. A romantic address does not compensate for a fourth-floor walk-up with luggage.

Visit both without forcing the choice
Use Jordaan after the Anne Frank House and De Pijp after the Rijksmuseum or Van Gogh Museum. Each becomes the natural afternoon for a major reservation nearby.
