How Many Days in Lisbon? Choose 2, 3, 4 or 5 Days

Plan three full days for Lisbon itself and four if you want a Sintra day trip. Two days covers the historic center and Belém at a brisk pace. Five days gives you Sintra plus a slower neighborhood, museum or coastal day.

Count full usable days, not hotel nights. A late arrival and an early departure do not combine into another sightseeing day.

Use one day for São Jorge Castle, Alfama and Baixa. Use the second for Belém, Chiado and an evening in Príncipe Real. You will get the landmarks but little room for museums, weather or long lunches.

Do not add Sintra to a two-day first visit unless it matters more than Lisbon itself.

Three days lets the hills and meals breathe. Keep Alfama and Baixa together, give Belém a half-day, then use a third day for Chiado, Príncipe Real, Estrela and a museum or long lunch.

Four full days is the sweet spot if Sintra is important. Spend three in Lisbon and one on the train to Pena Palace and one additional monument. The day trip has enough transport and timed entry to stand alone.

With five days, keep Sintra and add another Lisbon museum, a food-focused day or a trip toward Cascais. This length also absorbs rain and gives you evenings without packing every morning.

A longer stay makes Príncipe Real or Estrela especially appealing as a hotel base because you can accept a little transport in exchange for calmer nights.
