Lisbon Airport to the City: Metro, Taxi or Rideshare

Take the Metro when your hotel is close to a useful station and you have light luggage. Take a taxi or rideshare for Chiado, Alfama, Príncipe Real, heavy bags or a late arrival. The airport is close to central Lisbon, so door-to-door transport often offers more value here than in larger cities.

The final hill matters more than the straight-line distance. Save the hotel entrance, not just the street name, and ask whether a car can reach the door.

The airport is on the Red Line. Metropolitano de Lisboa shows connections into the rest of the network, and standard operations run from 6:30am to 1am. Contactless bank cards can be used on the Metro.

Use it for hotels near Saldanha, Marquês de Pombal or another direct connection. For a room deep in Alfama or uphill from Chiado, the last walk can erase the convenience.

Use the official taxi rank at the airport. A taxi is attractive for two people with luggage because central distances are short and the ride reaches the hotel area without stairs or transfers.

Have the address written down, confirm whether cards are accepted and request a receipt. If the hotel is in a pedestrian street, ask for its recommended drop point.

App-based rides use designated airport pickup arrangements that can change. Follow the app and airport signs rather than assuming the car will meet you at arrivals. Compare the live price with the taxi line.

Rideshare is useful when you want a known app price and exact destination, but a long pickup wait is rarely worth it when taxis are available.

Do not plan a timed monument immediately after landing. Drop bags, eat near the hotel and begin with a downhill neighborhood walk. The three-day Lisbon itinerary starts the major route the next morning and keeps the hills manageable.

Check live Metro hours and any airport pickup changes on travel day. When two options are close, choose the one that leaves you at the hotel door with enough energy to enjoy Lisbon.
