How do you get a table at Belcanto in Lisbon?

How do you get a table at Belcanto in Lisbon? I'd book it on Belcanto's SevenRooms page as soon as your dates are fixed, for a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday dinner. On November 1, 2026, the dinner calendar offered tables up to Friday, April 30, 2027, 180 days ahead, and most weeknights from mid-November onward still had open times.

Belcanto is José Avillez's restaurant on Rua Serpa Pinto in the Chiado, with two Michelin stars and, by its own site, 42nd on The World's 50 Best Restaurants list. It serves contemporary Portuguese cooking as a tasting menu or à la carte, Tuesday to Saturday.

The short-notice nights are the hard ones. In the first two weeks of November 2026 most dinners showed requests only, with Tuesdays the exception, so book weeks ahead rather than days.

When does your date open?

Count back about 180 days. On November 1, 2026, the last date the calendar would book was Friday, April 30, 2027, and May 2027 dates took requests only. If the window keeps that length, a dinner on Saturday, June 12, 2027, the night of Lisbon's Santo António festival, would open around Monday, December 14, 2026.

Two other things the calendar showed: every dinner from January 19 to 30, 2027 took requests only, and Tuesdays in November had open tables when the rest of the week did not. Treat both as what the calendar showed that day, not a rule.

Tasting menu or à la carte at Belcanto?

The tasting menu for a first visit. The menu itself says so: it is the one that tells the restaurant's story, from Avillez's early dishes to new ones. The catch is timing. It is served only until 1:30pm at lunch and 9pm at dinner, and only if the whole table orders it, so book a time that leaves room for it.

À la carte is the better call for a late table or for one person at the table who doesn't want a long meal. Either way, every guest orders their own; the menu says a tasting menu can't be shared.

Where does Belcanto fit in a Lisbon trip?

Book it on the night you are in the Chiado anyway: Rua Serpa Pinto runs down from the São Carlos opera house, a few minutes from the Baixa-Chiado Metro. Chiado or Príncipe Real picks where to stay nearby, and the Lisbon food itinerary builds the other meals around it.

Three days in Lisbon leaves one evening free for it. Avoid Sunday and Monday nights, when Belcanto is closed.
