Where should you stay in London with teenagers?
I'd choose South Bank for a first London family trip with teenagers, Covent Garden when theatre and central evenings lead the plan, or Bloomsbury for a quieter base around museums. South Bank gives you a useful walking route along the river and access to several different days without choosing a neighborhood solely for one attraction.
The room comes next. Two teenagers sharing a pull-out arrangement for a week is a different booking from younger children sharing for two nights. I would choose the neighborhood and sleeping plan together rather than find the cheapest family label in central London.
How do the three bases change the trip?
| Base | Choose it for | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| South Bank and Waterloo | A first visit with river walks and varied days | The actual walk from the station to the hotel |
| Covent Garden | Theatre, shops and central evenings | Street noise and the price of extra space |
| Bloomsbury | Museum-led days and a calmer return | A journey to some river and evening stops |
If a West End show is the reason for the visit, I would move Covent Garden to the top. If most of the days sit along the river, keep South Bank. A longer stay can justify a quieter room farther away, but only when the transport you will use makes sense in both directions.
Does a family room still include a 16-year-old?
Not necessarily. Premier Inn's official room description allows its family rooms to accommodate two adults and two children under 16. Most use a double or king bed with a single sofa bed and a pull-out bed. A teenager who has turned 16 changes that published family-room assumption.
I would enter each child's age on the stay dates before comparing room prices. A room for two adults and two children is not automatically a room for four people of any age. Other hotels can use different rules, so a chain's policy should not be applied across London.
Would I book two rooms instead?
I would compare two rooms when the teenagers need proper separate beds or the stay is long enough that privacy matters. If a connecting door is essential, get that arrangement confirmed rather than asking only for nearby rooms. A room on another floor can change the plan entirely.
For independent older teenagers, agree how evenings work before selecting a location. A hotel close to dinner or the theatre can be worth more than a large room that requires another journey every night. Do not choose a nightlife district just because the group includes teens.
Should one special outing determine the hotel?
Usually no. I would not move the whole family toward an out-of-center attraction for one booked day. Keep the hotel around the city days and arrange that excursion separately. London distances become more tiring when every outing requires crossing the city twice.
For a first visit, choose one major booked activity a day and leave time for food and walking. The London planning collection keeps the accommodation decision in view. Your base should support the family routine rather than force the routine to follow the cheapest available room.
How would I arrange the Heathrow arrival?
I'd choose the hotel around the days you will repeat, then arrange the airport ride to that address. A room near Paddington can make the arrival simple, but it would not move me away from South Bank if most of the family's plans sit there. The Heathrow transfer comparison works through the Elizabeth line, Piccadilly line, Heathrow Express and a car without stopping the decision at the first central station.
Count the luggage as well as the people before comparing a taxi quote with train fares. A teenager may have a full suitcase of their own, and the room arrangement tells you little about transport fare rules. I would save the exact hotel entrance on everyone's phone and settle a meeting point before the flight, so an unfamiliar station is not the place to decide what happens if the group separates.
Keep arrival evening close to the room. Drop bags, have a meal nearby and use the next morning for the first booked visit. If an early flight makes a guaranteed morning room essential, arrange that access with the hotel before paying for a day built around it. Bag storage and a promise to try for early check-in do not establish a place to sleep.
