Which day fits your Tokyo museum?

Choose a Tokyo museum day using holiday exceptions, exhibition dates and partial collection closures, with one nearby afternoon.

A Tokyo planning tool

Which museum day would I choose?

I'd put the museum you care about first on a day its calendar supports, then keep lunch and the afternoon nearby. Enter your first full day in Tokyo and choose that museum. I would book one museum morning before adding a second admission.

Enter your dates to find a museum day. Ticket availability is not checked.

What does the calendar cover?

Dates are Tokyo calendar dates. Museum information was checked October 20, 2026. This planner covers October 20, 2026 through March 28, 2027; outside that period it asks for a fresh calendar check. It does not check entry slots, live opening changes or ticket availability.

The Japanese Cabinet Office holiday calendar supplies the holidays used here. A museum can close during an installation even on a weekday when it would normally open.

Why can a weekday label be misleading?

The National Art Center normally closes Tuesday, with a holiday exception moving closure to the next weekday. Its exhibitions have their own dates. Nezu normally closes Monday, opens on a holiday Monday and closes the following Tuesday. Nezu also closes between exhibitions.

Mori's official schedule lists September 24 through October 30, 2026 as closed. Its Mariko Mori exhibition runs October 31, 2026 through March 28, 2027, advertised as open every day. That window does not establish an opening pattern after the exhibition ends.

What changes around New Year?

Tokyo National Museum lists a December 15, 2026 maintenance closure. Only the Horyu-ji Treasures Gallery and Kuroda Memorial Hall open December 22-25; that is not a morning in the Honkan Japanese collection. The year-end closure follows, and January 1, 2027 starts at noon. I would move a full museum morning to another date.

Nezu and National Art Center year-end or exhibition gaps are left as calendar checks when the exact dates are not established here. A missing exhibition schedule is not an open day.

Which visit belongs in your trip?

The Tokyo museum comparison helps you choose the collection first. The Monday museum guide explains the alternatives if that is your only museum day. For the rest of the route, use the three-day Tokyo itinerary.
