The Queen’s Hamlet sits beyond Petit Trianon, so it belongs to the full-day version. A first visit does not automatically require the whole estate.\nVersailles half day versus full day\nPlan | What fits | Realistic return to Paris\nHalf day | Early Palace entry, Water Parterre, main garden perspective and lunch near the Palace or in town | Mid-afternoon, depending on your train and lunch\nFull day | Palace, gardens, Grand Canal lunch, Grand Trianon, Petit Trianon and an optional walk to the Hamlet | Early evening\nThe half day works when the state apartments and Hall of Mirrors are the point. The full day works when you are interested in the estate as a place, including its landscape and smaller palaces."

Arrive at the entrance time on your ticket, see the state apartments and Hall of Mirrors, then move outside.\nA realistic half-day sequence\n• 8 to 9am: travel from Paris and walk from the station.\n• 9 to 10:30am: Palace route.\n• 10:30am to noon: Water Parterre, Latona Fountain and the main garden perspective.\n• Noon to 1:30pm: lunch near the Palace, in town or by the Grand Canal only if you are comfortable with the extra walk.\n• Early afternoon: return to the station and Paris.\nThis version does not include both Trianon palaces and the Queen’s Hamlet. If any of those are a priority, call the visit a full day before buying the ticket."

      "text": "Start with the Palace, then keep moving away from it. Visit the formal gardens after the state apartments, eat by the Grand Canal and continue toward the Estate of Trianon.\nA realistic full-day sequence\n• 9 to 10:30am: Palace route.\n• 10:30am to noon: formal gardens and groves.\n• Noon to 1:30pm: lunch around the Grand Canal.\n• 1:30 to 4:30pm: Grand Trianon, Petit Trianon and the Queen’s Hamlet if energy allows.\n• Late afternoon: return across the estate by foot, little train or another available internal option, then take the train to Paris.\nTrianon normally opens at noon. The estate’s current day guide lists a 10am opening in July and August. Check the calendar for your date. The walk from the Palace through the gardens and park is substantial, and the little train reduces walking without making the afternoon instant.\nThe full day works because you stop rushing. If the group is tired after Petit Trianon, skip the Hamlet instead of treating it as an obligation."

      "text": "Buy the Passport for the full day. The current 2026 Passport is €35, with an eligible EEA rate of €32. It includes timed Palace entry, the gardens, park, Trianon estate, temporary exhibitions and the Musical Fountains or Musical Gardens when scheduled.\nFor a half day you still buy the Passport: since January 14, 2026 it is the only ticket with a timed Palace visit. On musical-show days, garden access changes the calculation. Palace and Trianon admission is free for under-18s and eligible EU residents under 26, but musical garden access has separate rules. Check the official ticket page before assuming every family member needs the same product.\nA Paris Museum Pass holder still needs the required Versailles reservation. The current Passport page says pass holders should obtain a free Passport ticket. Tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable, so choose the length of the visit first."

      "heading": "Transport changes the math",
      "text": "Versailles has three useful stations. RER C reaches Versailles Château Rive Gauche, about a 10-minute walk from the Palace. Trains from Montparnasse reach Versailles Chantiers, about an 18-minute walk. Trains from Saint-Lazare reach Versailles Rive Droite, about a 17-minute walk.\nChoose the station from the part of Paris where you are staying, not by the shortest Palace walk alone. The official transport guide links to live rail status and planned works. Buy the correct return fare to the Versailles station you use.\nA half day still consumes more than the Palace visit itself. You have the trip out, the station walk, security, the visit and the return. Keep the afternoon flexible rather than promising yourself a second major museum."

      "heading": "Where should you eat?",
      "text": "For the full day, eat near the Grand Canal before Trianon. La Flottille is the brasserie option beside the canal. La Petite Venise is another sit-down choice in the park. Their location keeps the afternoon moving toward Trianon.\nFor a half day, lunch in the town can be the cleaner finish because you are already heading back toward the station. Do not cross deep into the estate for a restaurant if you are skipping Trianon.\nReserve only when the meal is important enough to shape the schedule. A fixed lunch in the wrong part of the estate can create more walking than the food is worth."

      "heading": "Which version would I choose?",
      "text": "Which Versailles plan fits your Paris trip?\nYour trip | My choice | Why\nTwo or three days in Paris | Half day at most | Unless Versailles is a central reason for the trip, protect time for Paris itself.\nFour or five days | Full day if Trianon or the gardens matter | The estate can now replace one Paris day without consuming most of a short visit.\nWith children | Half day or a selective full day | Choose fewer interiors and protect outdoor time. Skip the Hamlet if the walk is becoming the main event.\nLimited mobility | Plan internal transport before buying | The distance to Trianon matters more than the number of areas included on the ticket.\nThe complete Versailles day trip gives the route in order. Compare the outing with Giverny and Fontainebleau in the Paris day-trip guide. If you are still choosing between royal palaces, use Fontainebleau or Versailles."
