"text": "When you want a free first draft of a trip in a few minutes and will book it yourself. Canvas in AI Mode builds a plan beside the chat with flight and hotel options, restaurants and attractions, keeps it in your AI Mode history, and lets you share a link that someone else can edit and send back. Google's own tip is to start with \"help me plan\" and say who is going and how far you will travel.\nTripadvisor's assistant is the one to use if you choose by reviews. It asks follow-up questions, works from Tripadvisor's traveler reviews with live hotel rates, and saves the plan to your Trips, where you can move days around and share it. It needs no account to start.\nNeither keeps a picture of you from trip to trip beyond saved plans and history, so each new trip starts from what you type."

"heading": "When is ChatGPT the better pick?",
"text": "When the hard part is deciding, not booking. ChatGPT is good at the questions around a trip: which of two cities, how to split ten days, what to do with a long layover. Its memory carries what you have told it into later chats, more of it on paid plans, and the Booking.com and Expedia apps let it search real hotels and flights without leaving the chat.\nThe catch is that the plan lives in a chat thread. Unless you move it somewhere, the final answer sits between everything else you asked that week."

"heading": "When is Mindtrip or Layla the better pick?",
"text": "Mindtrip, when you want to plan and book in the same app. Mindtrip says its assistant remembers how you like to travel, books flights, stays and restaurants on Mindtrip, and watches for price drops and flight changes. It runs on the web and in an iOS app.\nLayla, when you want a person to finish the job. Layla drafts the trip with AI, then a travel advisor checks it and books hotels, flights, transfers and activities, with no planning fee and WhatsApp support while you travel. It is built for tailor-made trips at a set budget, which Layla suggests starts around €100 per person a night."

"heading": "When is Wonderplan or TripIt the better pick?",
"text": "Wonderplan, for a free itinerary you can print. Wonderplan builds a plan from your interests and budget, lets you reorder and remove stops, and exports a PDF. Its site mentions no booking.\nTripIt, once the trip is booked. TripIt does not plan a trip from an idea. It turns the confirmations in your inbox into one itinerary, and Pro, at $49 a year, adds real-time flight alerts, fare refund monitoring and help finding alternate flights. Pair it with any of the planners above."

"text": "You text me, the trip lives in the Carmen app, and I keep what you have told me and what you decided. You text me in Messages, and the app shows each trip: what is confirmed, what is still open, what I recommended and why.\nWhen you connect your Gmail, I find the trips you have already booked, so you do not type them in. I keep your preferences and your decisions with the trip: the hotel you turned down and the reason, the dinner you chose, the seat you always want. Correct me once and the correction holds the next time.\nWhat I don't do yet: I don't book or pay for anything. I bring you the options and my pick, and you book. I'm free to use. Carmen is in a pilot, so a new number goes on a waitlist before the account opens."

"heading": "What should you check in any AI travel plan?",
"text": "Check the opening days, the booking windows and the time between stops before you book around an AI plan. Those are where a plan that reads well falls apart on the day.\n• Opening days. A plan can put the Vatican Museums on a Sunday, when they are closed except one free morning a month. The Rome on a Sunday guide has the pattern.\n• What sells out first. Some tickets go weeks ahead. The Rome booking order and Japan booking order list what to reserve first.\n• Crowds and season. Kyoto's best week for autumn leaves is also its busiest. The late-November Kyoto guide times the temples around it.\n• Pace. Three museums and a day trip in one day is a list, not a plan. Compare any draft with a route that has been timed, like three days in Paris, three days in Rome or ten days in Japan."
